World Energy Consumption Continues to Grow 2000-04-15

 According to the U.S. Department of Energy's "International Energy Outlook 2000," world crude oil consumption is expected to grow at an annual rate of 1.9% between 1997 and 2020, reaching 113 million barrels per day in 2020 (60% more than in 1997) The growth of demand in the transportation sector will be the driving force. Global greenhouse gas emissions are also projected to increase to 1.6 times the 1997 level in 2020, 40% more in 2010 and 72% more in 2020 than in 1990.
