President Masaaki Utsumi's Charcoal Business Initiatives for Environmental Improvement - January 2000

President Masaaki Utsumi's Charcoal Business Initiatives for Environmental Improvement - January 2000

(Adachi-ku, Tokyo), led by President Masaaki Utsumi, is developing a charcoal manufacturing business that reuses wood waste. In particular, the company utilizes wood waste from lumber mills and construction sites in Tokyo, collecting approximately 3,000 tons of wood waste annually. These are recycled and processed into charcoal, which is used as a soil conditioner in agriculture and horticulture. In addition, the plant employs technology that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 20% compared to conventional incineration methods, thereby contributing to the reduction of environmental impact. In a joint project with farmers in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture, mixing charcoal with soil has been shown to promote crop growth and improve the carbon dioxide absorption capacity of farmland. With the goal of increasing the amount of wood waste collected to 5,000 tons by 2025, Naitao-Kikaku is expanding its recycling network in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau
of Environment.
