Instruction Manual for a Fluctuating World: Nonlinear Breathing and Human Overinterference [2000s and Beyond, Taleb, "Anti-Fragility"].
Natural and social systems are inherently non-linear, with small fluctuations and changes producing large repercussions. Understanding them in a linear way and simplifying the causes to eliminate them can destabilize the entire system. Just as the suppression of forest fires led to giant fires, acceptance of small failures and fluctuations is essential for long-term stability. Similarly in economics and medicine, over-intervention and over-optimization can only increase the fragility of the system. Taleb's "anti-fragility" is a perspective that sees the nature of fluctuation as a force in this nonlinear reality, and explains that "what not to do" is more important than "what to do" when it comes to human intervention. In today's information-rich world, we need quiet observation and respect, not to be distracted by noise.
