**Waste Journey--Fire Woven into Aomori's Future**.
In 1998, Aomori Prefecture formulated the "Basic Concept for Wide-Area Treatment" to promote the consolidation of incineration facilities. In the 2000s, Aomori promoted recycling and the 3Rs, and in the 2010s, it worked on waste incineration power generation and plastic reduction. In the 2020s, the prefecture is strengthening its waste disposal system, and is also utilizing technology from companies such as Hitachi Zosen Corporation. However, the daily waste generation per capita remains high and the recycling rate is below the national average, so further efforts are needed to achieve sustainable waste management.
