The Mind Eroded by Numbers - Kabukicho, a City of Light and Solitude (2015-2020)

The Mind Eroded by Numbers - Kabukicho, a City of Light and Solitude (2015-2020)

Kabukicho in the late 2010s and early 2020s was a town dominated by numbers. Sales and nomination rankings were visualized, and the value of cabaret girls was measured numerically; social networking made self-presentation mandatory, and followers and "likes" became proof of survival. Numbers have become both a source of pride and a curse, and the phrase "numbers make you sick" has become a cry of reality. The Gang Exclusion Ordinance has set back the control of organizations, but instead it has made it easier for emotions between individuals to erupt, and emotional differences give rise to incidents. With the revision of the Entertainment Business Law, the nightlife district became a place where tourism and the economy intersected, and the cast members became exhausted from the labor of constant connection. Customers quench their loneliness with money, and cast members prove their love with numbers. As the light increases, the shadow of loneliness grows darker, and behind the
smiling faces, the hearts of the people are being chipped away. Kabukicho is an extraordinary place, but it is also a mirror of modern society where approval and isolation intersect.
