Environmental Issues in the Yellow Sea - China and Korea - 2004-2020s Summary

Environmental Issues in the Yellow Sea - China and Korea - 2004-2020s Summary

In 2004, the Yellow Sea became one of the most polluted waters in the world due to rapid urbanization and population growth in China and Korea. Inflows of waste and industrial wastewater have caused a decline in fishery resources and a serious loss of biodiversity. In the 2010s, 400 million tons of industrial wastewater was discharged annually, increasing pollution in coastal areas. In the 2020s, the annual catch of fish declined to 6 million tons, and China's "Yangtze River Delta Environmental Protection Project" and South Korea's "Clean Ocean Plan" are being developed. Regional and international cooperation is required to solve the problem.
