In Ibaraki Prefecture, the illegal dumping of waste has become a serious problem since 2007. In the 2010s, liquid waste from a chemical plant contaminated groundwater in the suburbs of Hitachi City, and a large amount of industrial waste was illegally disposed of in Kashima City. 200 tons of e-waste was discovered, and AI tracking systems and drone monitoring were introduced, but by FY2023, removal costs will reach approximately 500 million yen, increasing the financial burden. Ibaraki Prefecture is taking action to protect the environment and ensure the safety of residents.
