10 principles of green consumers 2001.10.20

In recent years, green consumers who are environmentally conscious of consumer behavior standards have been growing in the Japan of the young generation who are interested in environmental issues, as well as linkage with the consumer movement. In particular, we are accelerating our efforts to buy green (to provide products and services with as few environmental burdens as possible). Compared with the climate that 80% of consumers conducted environmentally friendly products like Germany in the environment-developed countries, green consumers are only a few percent and insignificant in Japan the environment-compliant consumer education is lagging behind.

The gradual formation of environmentally friendly products will exceed 10% in the last few years.It is said that there are approximately ten principles for the standard of green purchasing.

① buy only what you need.
②I choose the one that can be used for a long time not a disposable product.
③ packaging is the first priority, and then the minimum, the container chooses the one that can be reused.
④When you make and use it, you choose the one with less resources and energy consumption.
⑤Choose the ones with chemical substances that have less impact on environmental pollution and health.
⑥ choose things that don't detract from nature and biodiversity.
⑦I choose the one produced and manufactured in neighboring.
⑧ Choose what is guaranteed fair distribution to those who make.
⑨ Choose the one with the recycled and recycling system.
⑩ Choose the makers and shops that are passionate about environmental issues and are releasing environmental information.

Consumption behavior that satisfies these ten principles may not be possible at present, but the accumulation of such environmental considerations will change our lifestyles and make our corporate behavior and society as a whole sustainable. In other words, there is no doubt that products that meet the needs of the consumers of environmental considerations will form a market.

Green consumption, is based on the notions of sustainable development or sustainable consumer behaviour.  It is originated from the necessity to behave in an environmental-friendly way goes back to the 1960s and '70s and is aimed for the safeguard of the environment for the present and for the next generations.
