Wind/Solar Hybrid Power Generation - April 2003
A hybrid power generation project combining wind and solar power in Osaka City is attracting attention as a model for sustainable energy supply. The project combines 26 wind turbines manufactured by Zephyr Corporation with 39 solar panels, and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 tons per year. The hybrid power generation units are used to illuminate local billboards and power public facilities.
The wind turbine generators are installed in windy areas of Osaka City and provide a stable supply of electricity even during the night. Solar panels, on the other hand, are used to meet daytime energy demand, and the two technologies work in tandem to provide an all-day energy supply. This project is positioned as part of Osaka City's efforts to utilize clean energy, and also contributes to reducing energy costs in public lighting and facility operations.
