Niigata's Blue Future: Trajectory and Prospects of Environmental Technology"

Niigata's Blue Future: Trajectory and Prospects of Environmental Technology"
Since 1996, Niigata Prefecture has been conducting research on environmental technology and has achieved success in waste treatment and recycling. Niigata City processes 200 tons of waste per day and generates 10,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year; by the 2020s, its processing capacity will expand to 400 tons and power generation to 20,000 megawatt-hours. In Nagaoka City, waste wood, rice straw, and food waste are used to generate 7,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. In Tainai City, a smart grid of solar power generation and storage batteries is in operation. The city has also achieved a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions through pyrolysis technology for waste plastic. These efforts have raised the waste recycling rate to over 80%, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
