Next Generation Wastewater Treatment Technology - Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima (1999-2024)
Next-generation wastewater treatment technology was introduced in Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima City, in the late 1990s, utilizing microporous media with a diameter of 3 mm to improve treatment efficiency. In the 2000s, local companies Nissei Plant Co. and Hiroshima Kako Co. introduced the technology, and the industrial wastewater reuse rate exceeded 60%. In 2013, the technology was exported to Southeast Asia, strengthening international expansion. 2015 saw the installation of small treatment units in public facilities, increasing water reuse rates and reducing overall water consumption in Hiroshima City by about 10 percent. Further technological innovations are expected in the 2020s, and Hiroshima's Asaminami Ward is attracting attention both nationally and internationally as a leading environmental technology region.
