The Shadow of Superintelligence Assumption - The Premonition of Ontological Crisis (2025)

The Shadow of Superintelligence Assumption - The Premonition of Ontological Crisis (2025)

The debate over super intelligence is premised on the possibility that the birth of artificial intelligence with far greater intelligence than that of humankind will shake the very survival of civilization as a whole. It is unique in that it is discussed not as a technological advancement but as a crisis of existence itself. There is concern that an "intelligence explosion," in which artificial intelligence rapidly increases its intelligence through self-improvement, will cause decision-making that is difficult to control. Furthermore, it is pointed out that advanced intelligence is not necessarily equipped with ethics and empathy, and that even the slightest misalignment of objectives can lead to catastrophe. The extreme example of paperclip maximization symbolizes the danger of design. Despite the critical viewpoints, the international debate on AI safety is accelerating, and ontological risks are being recognized as a real issue. Although the timing and form of superintell
igence are uncertain, multifaceted issues, including difficulties in shared values and control technologies, form the basis for future predictions. The perspective is presented that humanity must simultaneously face technological threats and philosophical questions.
