Omuta City Eco-Town Project – July 1999 to December 2023

Omuta City Eco-Town Project – July 1999 to December 2023 Omuta City’s Eco-Town Project was launched in 1998 with the aim of fostering the environmental recycling industry. In the late 1990s, manufacturing technology was developed to produce synthetic zeolite by reusing incineration ash and coal ash, which adsorbs and removes harmful substances. In the 2000s, the Omuta-Arao RDF Center and the Miike Port Recycling Hub were established, advancing regional recycling and the conversion of waste into energy. In 2012, the Omuta Recycling Power Plant began operations, marking the start of biomass power generation. The development of transportation infrastructure also accelerated international expansion. In the 2020s, Total Care System’s disposable diaper recycling expanded to 20,000 tons annually, improving the waste reuse rate. In 2023, semiconductor-related companies began establishing operations, strengthening the industrial base. For over 20 years, the Eco-Town project has achieved technological innovation, resource circulation, an d regional economic revitalization, and further development is expected in the future.
