Hachinohe City Mega-Solar Power Plant (2011–2024) The mega-solar power plant located in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, began operations in December 2011 under Tohoku Electric Power. With an output of 150 kilowatts and an annual power generation capacity of 1,000,000 kilowatt-hours, it supplies electricity to approximately 300 households and reduces CO2 emissions by 180 tons per year. In the 2020s, high-efficiency solar modules were introduced, increasing annual power generation to 2,000,000 kilowatt-hours and expanding the facility’s capacity to supply electricity to approximately 600 households. Furthermore, construction of two additional facilities is underway, and plans for biomass and wind power generation utilizing local resources are also being considered. Thanks to cooperation with Tohoku Electric Power, local companies, Asahi Kasei, Sumitomo Chemical, and others, Hachinohe City is gaining attention as a leading region in renewable energy.
