Mr. Masuyama - April 1995
---
Mr. Masuyama is a member of the Environmental Club leading the "Making Paper from Grass" project, actively engaging in environmental conservation efforts. This project was established in May 1991 to protect forest resources and meet the increasing demand for paper and pulp. The project gathered 30 people from various industries, including printers and small business owners, each contributing 1 million yen, creating a capital of 30 million yen.
The main goal of the project is to produce paper using non-wood pulp materials (e.g., kenaf and cogon grass) to prevent deforestation. Kenaf-based paper, in particular, has been tested both domestically and internationally, with successful results in papermaking experiments in Ikazaki, Ehime Prefecture, and the Philippines. The project also develops environmental education programs and promotes participation in acid rain monitoring networks.
Mr. Masuyama plans to use the profits from the Environmental Club's activities for further environmental measurements and socially beneficial projects. He has expressed his commitment to environmental protection, saying, "I want to revitalize the region through ecotourism and continue to disseminate living information."
Another activity of the Environmental Club is the import and promotion of paper made from non-wood pulp materials such as kenaf and cogon grass. The business cards of the investors are made from these materials, contributing to the reduction of deforestation associated with paper consumption.
Mr. Masuyama and the Environmental Club will continue to carry out various environmental conservation activities, striving to raise environmental awareness across society. His activities aim to widely convey the importance of environmental protection and contribute to local communities through concrete actions.
