History and Current Status of Sino-Japanese Environmental Protection Cooperation (2007-2020s)

In 2007, Premier Wen Jiabao and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met and issued the "Joint Statement on Further Strengthening Environmental Protection Cooperation," which outlined cooperation in 10 areas, including NOx reduction, DSS control, and technology transfers. 2010s: Japanese companies actively participated in China's air pollution control program and renewable energy expansion. In the 2020s, President Xi Jinping has set a goal of carbon neutrality, and Japanese companies are expanding their business in the Chinese market while complying with environmental regulations. Cooperation between local governments also progressed, with Kyoto and Xi'an implementing a partnership to improve air quality. Cooperation in combating climate change and air pollution is contributing to building a sustainable future for Asia as a whole.
