The Future of the Circle Spun by Forests: "Eco Forest Kyoto" and the Trajectory of Kyoto Organic Resources (2003-2025)
Eco Forest Kyoto, a recycling plant established in Nagaokakyo City by nine waste disposal companies in Kyoto Prefecture, has been working to convert organic waste from food factories, supermarkets, and the food service industry into feed and fertilizer. The facility has a feed conversion line using animal and vegetable residues and kitchen waste, and a fertilizer conversion line using organic sludge, with an estimated annual contracted processing cost of approximately 600 million yen.
The facility will be operated in accordance with the Food Recycling Law by adopting an integrated system from food waste collection to processing and recycling. The facility has attracted attention as a model case that contributes to the creation of a sustainable society while reducing the environmental burden by recycling resources that were previously disposed of.
Recycled feed and fertilizer were also supplied to local farmers, contributing to the revitalization of agriculture. The company planned to further develop the business by expanding processing capacity and introducing new technologies.
