The Breath of Satoyama, the Trajectory of Green Tourism in Minami-Shinshu - December 2003 - March 2025
The Minami Shinshu Green Tourism Special Zone was designated for the Minami Shinshu region of Nagano Prefecture in 2003 to promote exchange between urban and rural areas and revitalize the local economy. Farmer's inns and agricultural experience programs have been developed, increasing opportunities for visitors to experience the nature and traditional culture of the region. In particular, experience-based tourism utilizing local products has been enhanced, and the designation as a "doburoku special zone" has made it possible to offer locally produced doburoku.
In addition, eco-tourism was promoted in consideration of environmental conservation, and sustainable community development was promoted through satoyama conservation activities and organic farming experiences. This success has led to the spread of green tourism throughout Japan and has become a new model for tourism utilizing local resources.
As of 2025, farmer's inns and citizen farms are being established in the Minami Shinshu Green Tourism Special Zone, supporting the revitalization of the local economy. The Minami-Shinshu Tourism Organization offers a variety of tourism programs, including trekking tours, traditional craft experiences, and cooking classes using local ingredients. It is attracting nationwide attention as a model for sustainable tourism, and further development is expected.
