### History and Current Status of Air Pollution Problems in Bali (1990s-2020s, Bali, September 1998)
Since the 1990s, air pollution in Bali has become more serious with the development of tourism. The increase in traffic in the main tourist areas caused emissions mainly from cars and motorcycles, and suspended particulate matter (PM10) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) increased health risks. 2010s saw stricter emission controls and forest fire prevention measures, but the increase in traffic and lack of waste disposal due to the tourism industry became an issue. In the 2020s, the plastic waste reduction plan and the activities of the environmental group Sungai Watch have made progress in preventing waste runoff. However, further efforts are needed to balance tourism and environmental protection by improving transportation infrastructure and introducing renewable energy.
