Idol Culture in the 1970s and Yamaguchi Momoe (1970s)
Momoe Yamaguchi is one of the most popular idols of the 1970s, debuting as one of the "Three Daughters. Initially, she was a cute idol image, but she established herself as an "adult idol" with mature singing ability and personality. Their songs "Hitonatsu no Keiken" and "Autumn Cherry Blossoms," written by Yoyoko Agi and Ryudo Uzaki, were big hits, and their songs with social messages symbolized the era. In 1980, at the age of 22, Momoe retired after her marriage and left the public eye with "Sayonara no Mukougawa (Beyond Good-bye)," her last song. Momoe Yamaguchi revolutionized the image of idols, and even after her retirement, her influence has been passed on to many younger generations and fans.
