Outline of Saga City Waste Plastic Oil Conversion Plant
In 1996, Saga City collaborated with a plant in Aioi City, Hyogo Prefecture, to conduct a demonstration experiment to convert waste plastic into oil, establishing a technology to recover 65 kg of synthetic oil from 100 kg of waste plastic. The CCU plant, which utilizes CO₂ separation and recovery, was subsequently introduced in 2018 and utilizes 10 tons of CO₂ per day for agriculture, etc. In response to the Law for Promotion of Recycling of Plastic Resources, which will take effect in 2022, the city is promoting resource recovery while also advancing advanced chemical recycling through ENEOS and other companies. Saga City is attracting nationwide attention as an advanced example of environmental load reduction and resource recycling.
