Paris, France and the Waste Management Business - December 2020
Since the 1990s, France's waste management business has evolved significantly: in 1997, a global company was created to process 5 million tons of waste per year; in the 2000s, Veolia and Suez expanded internationally, processing more than 10 million tons per year in Africa and Asia. Domestically, a facility outside Paris processed 800,000 tons and provided electricity to 600,000 households. 2010s saw the introduction of IoT-based smart bins in Bordeaux and the recycling of 45,000 tons of plastic per year near Lyon, with a 55% recycling rate. 2020s. Veolia and Suez merge to create the world's largest company with annual revenues of 37 billion euros. With the capacity to process more than 50 million tons per year, France is a model for environmental innovation and sustainable growth.
