Poem of the Voiceless - Light and Shadow of Yutaka Ozaki (1983-1992)
Yutaka Ozaki was a singer-songwriter who made his debut in 1983 at the age of 17 and shook the souls of the youth of his era for nine years until his sudden death in 1992 at the age of 26. Songs such as "Fifteen Nights," "I Love You," and "Graduation" deeply captured the hearts of his generation by straightforwardly expressing the loneliness, anger, and love of young people struggling within the framework of society. His live performances were not just music, but confessions of his soul, and he crossed hearts with the audience at his guerrilla live performances in Yoyogi Park and at the Tokyo Dome. In his later years, he was mentally trapped, and after drug rumors and a missing persons scandal, he was found collapsed under an eave in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, in 1992 and never returned home. The cause of death was believed to be acute pulmonary edema, but this remains a mystery. About 40,000 people gathered for his funeral, and the sight of them seeing him off was just like his las
t live performance. Ozaki's music continues to resonate across generations, and his son, Hiroya Ozaki, has inherited his aspirations. He is a "voice for the voiceless" who lives beyond the ages and continues to sing in the wind even today.
