Kawasaki City - Large Scale Illegal Dumping - April 2019
In April 2019, approximately 200 tons of waste was found illegally dumped in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. The waste contained asphalt and scrap metal and involved a specific contractor, XYZ Construction Co. Upon receiving a report from a local resident, the Kawasaki City Environmental Bureau and police conducted an investigation. Removal of the dumped waste cost approximately 10 million yen, and the contractor was fined 5 million yen. Kawasaki City decided to install surveillance cameras, strengthen patrols, and conduct educational activities to encourage local residents to report dumping when they see it. It is expected that efforts to protect the local environment will be strengthened.
