A City Breathing Green - Hita City's Challenge

A City Breathing Green - Hita City's Challenge
Hita City in Oita Prefecture is working to create a sustainable society by utilizing local resources. 2011 saw the introduction of biomass power generation using sewage sludge, which generates approximately 810,000 kWh/year and provides 27% of the electricity consumed by the facilities. In 2013, a woody biomass power plant using unused timber from the region began operation, aiming to revitalize the forestry industry by utilizing approximately 70,000 tons of timber per year. The electricity generated will be sold in its entirety. From 2022, the city will formulate the "Hita City Biomass Utilization Promotion Plan," and is currently implementing a policy that focuses on regional resource recycling and reducing environmental impact.
