Dabanehira" - the sword of the late Heian period.

Kibimae Kanehira, a swordsmith active in Bizen Province at the end of the Heian period, is known for his famous sword "Ookanehira" (大包平). This sword is approximately 89 cm in length and 35 cm in warp, and is characterized by the use of Shinogi-zukuri and a boar-necked spearhead. The inscription on the stem, "Made by Bizen Province Kanehira," indicates that this sword is a very special piece.

The "Taikabuhei" was passed down through the Ikeda family, the lords of the Okayama domain, and after being owned by Ikeda Terumasa, it was cherished for generations. In 1967, the Japanese government purchased it for 65 million yen, and it is now in the collection of the Tokyo National Museum. Because of its beauty and skill, it has been described as "a masterpiece of Japanese swordsmanship," and along with Dojikiri-Yasutsuna, it is also known as the "East-West Yokozuna of Japanese swords.

In recent years, the anthropomorphic character of "Ohbanehira" in "Touken Ranbu" has become well known among the younger generation. The sword's historical value is symbolized by the fact that he calls himself the "Yokozuna of swords" and considers Doshikiri-Yasutsuna, one of the Five Swords of Japan, to be his rival. The "Dabanehira" holds a special place in the history of Japanese swords and continues to fascinate many scholars and sword enthusiasts.
