Approval of Minami-Shinshu Green Tourism Special Zone - December 2003
Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, has received the third round of certification as a Special Zone for Structural Reform, and has been newly designated as the "Minami-Shinshu Green Tourism Special Zone. The purpose of this special zone is to promote exchange with urban areas by taking advantage of the region's agricultural and natural resources. In particular, it is characterized by the provision of homemade doburoku at farmhouses and guesthouses, allowing visitors to experience the local food culture and traditions.
This initiative aims to revitalize local tourism and agriculture, and includes the development and promotion of processed products that utilize local agricultural products. In addition, the introduction of environmentally friendly agriculture and eco-tourism is being promoted to develop a sustainable local economy. With the approval of the special zone, it is expected that a new business model integrating agriculture and tourism will be established while taking advantage of deregulation.
Through the use of special zones, the government aims to promote the independence of the local economy and develop it as a successful case study that can be expanded to other regional cities throughout Japan.
