New Envelope Development Using Thinned Wood - January 2003

New Envelope Development Using Thinned Wood - January 2003

The Central Council for Promotion of Wood Use has begun selling envelopes made from wood from thinning for the purpose of effectively using forest resources and reducing environmental impact.
These envelopes are made of paper blended with 85% recycled paper and 15% wood from thinning, and maintain the same quality as regular envelopes while reducing environmental impact.
Manufactured by Imura Envelope and Yamazakura, the product is expected to be used as document envelopes by government agencies and local governments in addition to sales to corporations.

Although thinned wood is cut down to promote healthy forest growth, it is often not used, and its utilization has been an issue.
This initiative has been recognized as a way to promote the effective use of thinned wood, thereby contributing to the promotion of forest maintenance and CO₂ reduction.
In addition, the price of the envelopes is kept at the same level as that of ordinary products, and an increasing number of public offices and municipalities have decided to introduce these envelopes.
In the future, the company expects to expand sales channels to corporations and organizations to reduce environmental impact and promote the use of the product as a model for sustainable forest resource utilization.
