Gasification Power Generation in Misugi Village, Mie Prefecture - December 2002
A small-scale gasification power generation system (output 80 kW/h) led by Shinei Lumber has been installed in Misugi Village, Mie Prefecture. This system utilizes the abundant wood resources of the region to generate electricity by gasifying woody biomass. Approximately 500 tons of wood from thinning and wood waste from sawmills are used annually, with the aim of improving the energy self-sufficiency of the entire region. The gasification and power generation system generates approximately 640,000 kWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 100 public facilities and small businesses in the village. In addition, the system reduces the cost of wood waste disposal by about 30% compared to conventional disposal methods, resulting in an annual cost savings of about 15 million yen. This initiative is making a significant contribution to the effective use of wood waste and the reduction of environmental impact in the region, and Shinei Lumber plans to further expand
the facility to process approximately 800 tons of wood waste per year.
