Plastic Resource Recycling Law goes into effect - April 1, 2022
On April 1, 2022, the Plastic Resource Recycling Law went into effect. This law aims to promote the reduction, reuse, and recycling of plastic waste and the transition to a circular economy. The main contents of the law include mandates to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic products. It also includes promoting the use of alternative materials such as biomass plastics, providing economic incentives, and separate collection of plastic products from households. In addition, Japan is expected to take an international leadership role in the formulation of an international convention to eradicate plastic pollution by 2024.
