Ethics and Education of CPAs - Japan-Wide, 2000s and Beyond
As a CPA, I am keenly aware of the importance of ethics on a daily basis. In response to the need to prevent accounting irregularities and ensure transparency, we receive 20 to 40 credits of ethics training per year under the guidance of the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (JICPA). In the training, participants learn how to prevent conflicts of interest and deal with legal compliance through specific case studies and online learning. As the past Enron and Livedoor scandals have shown, unethical behavior leads to a loss of trust in society as a whole. I personally utilize the JICPA's Ethics Handbook to improve the accuracy of my judgment in my work. I feel it is our mission to build trust through this kind of education.
