Ties of the Dark Current - The Dōnin-kai and the Shadow of Yukitaka Maeda (1971-2024)
The Dōnin-kai, founded in 1971 in Kurume, Fukuoka, was a gang that expanded its power in the interregnum between postwar reconstruction and rapid economic growth. Deeply involved in local labor and the construction industry, it functioned as a "land and labor community. Following Isoji Koga I, Yukitaka Maeda is said to have supported the organization as a mediator and fund manager, but his real image is shrouded in mystery; in the 1980s, nine people were killed in a mountain road war with the Yamaguchigumi, and in the 2000s, a war with the Kyushu Seidokai intensified, resulting in a horrific situation where hand grenades and automatic weapons were used. As police cut off funding sources and forced the group to withdraw from Kurume, a settlement with Namikawa-kai was sought in the 2010s, and the group declared an end to the war in 2021; in 2024, Kenichi Fukuda V took office, steering the group toward economic activities rather than violence. The Dōnin-kai has now gone underg
round as a "corporate organization" and embodies a new form of the underworld, backed by the ties of kinship and blood in Kyushu society.
