Status of U.S. Soil Remediation Technologies in the 2020s

In the 2020s, soil contamination problems are becoming more serious in urban and industrial areas in the United States. In New Jersey, phytoremediation using genetically engineered sunflowers reduced the concentration of lead in soil by about 65% between 2022 and 2024. Also in California, a remediation technique using ferns with nanotechnology was introduced to improve arsenic removal efficiency by 40%. As a result, approximately 800,000 square meters of contaminated soil was cleaned up over a 10-year period.
