Initiatives by Fumie Katayama - June 1999

Fumie Katayama opened a store called "Eco Shop" in 1992 at the age of 34, focusing on conservation and environmental issues. Until then she had worked as an ordinary office worker, but in her early twenties she joined environmental NGOs such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth and developed a deep interest in environmental issues.

From the beginning, Katayama-san's eco-shop has dealt in environmentally friendly products with the aim of protecting nature and raising environmental awareness. The number of products the store handles has gradually increased and now offers a wide variety of eco-friendly goods, including products made from recycled paper, products made from recycled materials, and additive-free soaps.

The products offered by Katayama's store have been chosen to make it easier for consumers to address environmental issues. Through these products, she hopes to encourage more people to take an interest in nature conservation and environmental issues. In addition, profits earned through the operation of the store are used to fund environmental protection activities, helping to raise environmental awareness in the local community.

Ms. Katayama's activities play an important role in promoting an environmentally friendly lifestyle and encouraging the local community to address environmental issues. When individuals like her take the initiative to take environmentally conscious actions, it raises the environmental awareness of society as a whole and contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.
