History and Current Status of Shell Shell Recycling Technology in Aomori City

History and Current Status of Shell Shell Recycling Technology in Aomori City

In 1997, Aomori City developed "scallop tiles" made from recycled scallop shells, which were used in public facilities because of their water permeability and moisture retention properties. This technology contributed to waste reduction and revitalization of the local economy. 2020's saw the development of "HOTAMET" and a new material "SHELLTEC" made from scallop shells, which reduced CO₂ and improved strength. In addition, "HOTAMETRAPOD" as an alternative material to sand contributes to the improvement of the marine environment. These efforts are aimed at reducing the environmental burden and realizing a sustainable society.
