Raw Vibrancy and Creativity - 1900-2025

Raw Vibrancy and Creativity - 1900-2025

In Bergson's philosophy, "life" (élan vital) is not merely a vital phenomenon, but is associated with the unpredictable and creative flow of time itself. For him, life does not proceed mechanically according to a predetermined blueprint. Rather, it is a movement that continually creates newness and carves out its own future.

This idea of "creative evolution" is important in explaining the diversity of life in nature. Bergson notes that all life not only adapts efficiently, but also experiments with new forms, creating beauty and wonder in the process. For example, he sees animal behavior, plant growth, and even human art and morality as manifestations of this creative energy.

Moreover, this creativity is not an accumulation of coincidences, but unfolds in an internal time called "duration. Sustenance is a way of time in which the past and the present blend together and continue qualitatively changing into the future, and in this sustenance life not only survives, but also continually creates new forms.

Thus, for Bergson, life is not "evolution toward a goal," but "evolution that creates its own goal. His thought goes beyond evolutionary theory and biology to the possibilities of human creativity and history. Our thoughts and society, like life, are also in an unpredictable creative flow.
