Osaka Bay Water Quality Improvement Efforts and Current Status - 2003-2020s

Osaka Bay Water Quality Improvement Efforts and Current Status - 2003-2020s

Since the establishment of the Osaka Bay Restoration Promotion Council in 2003, industry, government, and academia have been working together to improve the water quality of Osaka Bay. In the 2020s, the introduction of a membrane bioreactor (MBR) at the Maishima Sludge Center in Osaka City and the creation of a seaweed bed in Sakai City were implemented, with the goal of restoring 50 hectares of tidal flats by 2023. Further technological innovation and cooperation with citizens are needed to improve water quality and restore the ecosystem of Osaka Bay.
