Initiatives by President Hisayuki Kamei of Kumagaya Carbon Corporation - January 2000

Kumagai Carbon Corporation (Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture), headed by President Hisayuki Kamei, recycles approximately 2 million tons of the 15 million tons of wood waste generated annually. In particular, demolition and pallet materials from construction sites and waste wood from the furniture manufacturing industry are reprocessed into fuel chips and wood pellets, which are used as fuel for biomass power plants and boilers. This contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The company has also developed technology to detoxify hazardous waste materials containing lead and chlorine compounds, processing 500,000 tons of waste annually at recycling facilities in Kumagaya and Tokorozawa cities in Saitama Prefecture. 2022 saw the company honored as an "Excellent Recycler" by the Ministry of the Environment.
