Mr. Masuyama - April 1995
--- Mr. Masuyama
Mr. Masuyama is a member of the Environmental Club, which leads the "Making Paper from Grass" project and is actively involved in environmental protection activities. The project was established in May 1991 to protect forest resources and meet the increasing demand for paper and pulp. The project brought together 30 people from various industries, including printers and small and medium business owners, who each invested 1 million yen to provide 30 million yen in capital.
The main goal of the project is to produce paper using non-wood bulrp materials (e.g., kenaf and cogon grass) to curb deforestation. In particular, paper made from kenaf has been tested both in Japan and overseas, and papermaking experiments in Igasaki Town, Ehime Prefecture, and in the Philippines have yielded positive results. We also develop environmental education programs and encourage participation in acid rain measurement networks.
Mr. Masuyama plans to use the profits gained through the activities of the environmental club for further environmental measurement and socially beneficial projects. He says, "I want to revitalize the local community through eco-tourism and continue to disseminate live information," and he is eager to continue focusing on environmental protection activities in the future.
Another activity of the Environmental Club is to import and promote paper made from non-wood bulrp materials such as kenaf and cogon grass, and the business cards of the investors are made from these materials. This contributes to the reduction of deforestation associated with paper consumption.
Mr. Masuyama and the Environmental Club will continue to develop various environmental conservation activities and make every effort to raise environmental awareness throughout society. His activities are aimed at spreading awareness of the importance of environmental protection and contributing to local communities through concrete actions.
