Omuta Eco-Town Project - July 1999 to December 2023

Omuta Eco-Town Project - July 1999 to December 2023

Omuta's Eco-Town project began in 1998 with the aim of fostering an environmental recycling industry, and in the late 1990s, technology was developed to reuse incinerator ash and coal ash to produce artificial zeolite, which adsorbs and removes toxic substances. In 2012, the Omuta Recycling Power Plant became operational and started biomass power generation. The development of transportation infrastructure has also accelerated international expansion; in the 2020s, Total Care System's paper diaper recycling expanded to 20,000 tons per year, increasing the reuse rate of waste; in 2023, a semiconductor-related company will move into the area, strengthening the industrial base; and in 2012, a new recycling plant will be built in Omuta, bringing the total amount of waste generated in the area to 20,000 tons per year. Over the past 20 years, the Eco-Town project has achieved technological innovation, resource recycling, and revitalization of the local economy, and further developm
ent is expected in the future.
