Unusual Technology - Consobon Process - January 2000
The Consobon Process, developed by Lurgi, is an advanced technology specifically designed for the removal of hazardous substances. It has been installed at an industrial waste treatment facility in Tokyo and effectively removes hazardous substances such as dioxins, PCBs, mercury, and furans from the flue gas. The process utilizes a filter layer to adsorb toxic substances in the exhaust gas, achieving a removal rate of over 99%. It can also be applied to soil remediation and adsorption of organic solvents, significantly reducing environmental impact.
Currently, this technology is being used at specific facilities in Saitama and Chiba prefectures, where approximately 1,000 tons of waste is treated annually. At the facilities where this technology is used, substances that are difficult to remove by conventional incineration are rendered harmless, thereby contributing to the improvement of the local environment. Although this technology is more expensive than other waste treatment technologies due to its sophistication, it is indispensable for certain facilities due to its effectiveness.
