RD40 Introduction Opens the Way to Decarbonized Construction--Green Flames, Burning in Concrete: From the Osaka City Site (May 2025)
In May 2025, RD40, an environmentally friendly fuel, was introduced for the first time in Japan at a construction site in Osaka City. This is an alternative fuel to diesel fuel that contains 40% renewable oil-derived components and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40%. The companies that introduced this fuel are Taisei Corporation and Itochu Enex, and it is a symbolic step toward the decarbonization of the construction industry. Through this site, the two companies are conducting a multifaceted verification of the practicality, safety, compatibility with existing heavy equipment, and supply system. Osaka City has long been active in implementing environmental city measures, and the introduction of the new system is also attracting attention as part of the city's overall sustainability efforts. The introduction of RD40 will be recorded not as a mere alternative fuel, but as an attempt to change the very structure of society.
