Promoting the Use of Heat Pumps - Summary

Promoting the Use of Heat Pumps - Summary

Geothermal heat pumps have been widely used since 2001 and are expected to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. In the beginning, the installation cost was 5-7 million yen, making it difficult to install in small and medium enterprises and residences, but in the 2010s, subsidies (up to 3 million yen) and technological improvements reduced the cost to 4-5 million yen. The system is now being deployed nationwide. Examples of introduction are spreading in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, and Daisen City, Akita Prefecture, and the issues of strengthening policy support and spreading the technology to public facilities have been raised.
