Kitakyushu Eco-Town Concept - 1999 to 2023."

Kitakyushu City overcame its former pollution problems and was certified as an "Eco-Town Project" in 1997, aiming to transform itself into a resource-recycling city. At "Kitakyushu Eco-Plaza" in Wakamatsu Ward, 12,000 tons of waste plastic are converted into fuel annually, and waste oil and tires are also reused. The "Eco-Energy Kitakyushu" waste-to-energy plant has the capacity to supply electricity to approximately 100,000 households annually, and is working with local companies to improve recycling technologies, such as turning slag into building materials. Citizen participation is also progressing, with more than 30,000 people participating in environmental education annually and 5,000 citizen volunteers engaged in recycling activities. In addition, the company is exporting its technology to Indonesia, Thailand, and other Asian countries, thereby contributing to international solutions to environmental problems.
