Large Dredging and Oil Recovery Vessel "Hakusan" - August 2021
Hakusan is a multi-functional vessel operated by the Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau, which normally performs dredging operations at Niigata and Fushiki-Toyama ports, and operates as an oil recovery vessel in emergency situations. The vessel mitigated damage to the environment by using technology to efficiently recover the oil by suppressing it with water discharge while navigating. We also conducted disaster drills in various locations in cooperation with NYK and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, and continue to work with the Ministry of the Environment and local governments to improve emergency response capabilities in accordance with the MARPOL Convention.
