History and Improvement of the Yellow River Crossing Phenomenon

History and Improvement of the Yellow River Crossing Phenomenon

In the 1990s, the Yellow River in China experienced a flow cutoff phenomenon of more than 120 days per year, severely affecting agriculture and fisheries in Shandong and Henan provinces. Since the 2000s, the Chinese government has been restricting water withdrawal, introducing efficient irrigation technology, and constructing the Siaowanbottom Dam. By the 2020s, most of the breakwaters have been eliminated, and wetlands are expanding and endangered species are recovering. This history illustrates the importance of sustainable water resource management and ecosystem protection.
