Overview of Wood Fuel Pellets Dissemination in Tochigi Prefecture

Overview of Wood Fuel Pellets Dissemination in Tochigi Prefecture
In Tochigi Prefecture, wood fuel pellets have been produced since the 2000s, and the Nasu Forestry Cooperative produces more than 1,200 tons per year using thinned cedar and cypress wood. The pellets are used in household stoves and public facilities, contributing to energy self-sufficiency in the region. 2010s saw the expansion of production technology and sales channels, and the introduction of pellets into public facilities. 2020s will see the construction of a 1000kW biomass power generation facility in collaboration with "Hybrid Energy Co. In the 2020s, a 1,000 kW-scale biomass power generation facility will be constructed in collaboration with Hybrid Energy Corporation, and sustainable energy use is being promoted. On the other hand, the self-sufficiency rate has dropped to 6.8% due to an increase in imported pellets in response to rising nationwide demand. In response, the prefecture is promoting the effective use of local resources by introducing pellet boilers in pub
lic facilities and strengthening educational activities.
