The era in which data becomes god: the rise of data cult and the disappearance of subjectivity (2020s)
Dataism," as Yuval Noah Harari describes it in Homo Deus, is an ideology in which information becomes central to meaning and value. Today, algorithmic recommendations take precedence over one's own judgment, and even everyday choices, such as video recommendations on YouTube or health advice on smart devices, are left to machines. In such an environment, human free will and intuition are dismissed as irrational and in danger of degenerating into "useless consciousness. Unlike in the days when religion guided the soul, data-ism supremely values "perfect information processing and connection," and the evolution of AI and IoT technologies in the 2020s and increased surveillance due to pandemics have accelerated this trend even further. Harari is alarmed by the reality that we are being transformed into beings subject to the god of data.
