Masa's Sunset - 2013-2014 Dawn of the Yahoo! Information Leak
In 2013, Yahoo! faced the largest data breach in its history. The number of leaked data amounted to 3 billion, and another 500 million leaked data was discovered in 2014. At the time, social networking services and cloud services were becoming an infrastructure for daily life, and account linkages were becoming common, so the breach spread to unauthorized access to other sites as well. Yahoo! did not disclose the problem for a long time and finally announced the full extent of the breach in 2016, which severely challenged the company's accountability. The involvement of four officials was indicted. This incident demonstrated to the world the lesson that "information protection cannot take a back seat to growth," and prompted the trend toward GDPR and other legal reforms. As an event symbolic of the collapse of trust in the digital age, Yahoo!'s name remains etched in security history.
