The project started in 2004 in Nishiaoshi Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, is a zero-emission model that utilizes shochu waste from the Kirishima Sake Brewery to extract polyphenols and convert it into livestock feed. In the 2020s, the introduction of biomass energy will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,200 tons per year. The local brand "Kumamoto Polyphenol" has also been established and is attracting attention both domestically and internationally. Currently, the contribution to the local economy amounts to more than 1 billion yen per year, and is attracting attention from all over Japan as a sustainable regional agricultural model.
